2016 Nannen Prize
In 2016, we pared the entire show down to an empty sheet of paper, which transformed into a veritable forest of emotions over the course of the evening. The ceremony, held in Hamburg’s Curio-Haus, shifted the focus back to the content of the nominated works, putting their sheer breadth, depth, quality and variety centre stage.

The highlights of the show included the performance of poetry slammer Moritz Neumeier, whose blend of political stand-up was both funny and smart, while readings by Sebastian Koch, Hannah Herzsprung and Dietmar Bär – accompanied by a live foley artist – left the audience captivated. The unanimously positive media reception proved that the revamped Nannen Prize was a resounding success.

2017 Nannen Prize – Trump. Brexit. Fake Media.
The briefing was to stage a year of press reporting in which there was no one truth, but rather several: public opinion, published opinion and election results. Nothing seemed to make sense any more. And whatever perspective informed your view of the world, the picture was always different. With this in mind, we designed the stage of the 2017 Nannen Prize as a cube in which no single edge stands at a right angle to another.

A cube whose corners and edges do not match up, but that opened out towards the audience, blurring the boundary between professional journalists and readers who publish content. Adopting the same self-critical, yet self-confident approach that we used for the stage, we also designed the rest of the event, which – with prestigious guests and inspirational talks – was once again an unqualified success.
